Nifty Below 23,700, Sensex Slips by 50 Points; Apollo Hospitals, Trent Play the Spoilsport
Nifty fell by 18.95 points at 23,688.95, Sensex dipped by 50.62 points to touch 78,148.49.

The Indian benchmark indices ended on a negative note on Wednesday, buoyed by losses in financial and consumer stocks. While Nifty fell by 18.95 points at 23,688.95, Sensex dipped by 50.62 points to touch 78,148.49. Overall, market capitalisation of BSE listed companies fell by Rs 3.66 lakh crore to Rs 439.59 lakh crore.
Among the laggards, Apollo Hospitals, Trent, Shriram Finance and Ultratech Cement ended the day with losses, while ONGC, TCS, Reliance Industries, ITC and Asian Paints gained by about 3%.
Nifty Midcap100 went down by 1.05% at 56,270.60. Nifty Smallcap100 ended with losses of 1.65% at 18,365.65.
Among sectoral fronts, Nifty Consumer Durables plunged by 2.16%, while Nifty Healthcare Index fell by 1.09%. Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG gained by 0.60% and 0.44% respectively.
Rupee came under heavy pressure as it hit a record low of 85.87 against the greenback on the back of surging crude oil prices and strengthening US dollar. Poor market sentiments and high FII outflows are keeping investors in a tizzy.
